With coronavirus pandemic all over, we all know that post Covid-19 the life isn’t going to be ‘normal’ as before. It is understood that now we have to learn to live with coronavirus threat, that needs precautions in day to day routines. Physical distancing, improved care about personal hygiene and improving self immunity to fight the virus, are now going to be ‘new normal’ post Covid-19 lifestyle.
More than 60 days of lockdown, Covid-19 has another side of the coin too. We now have cleaner air, lower pollution and lush green all over. This is the perfect time to grab the opportunity to get into cycling to find health and environmental benefits.
“The bicycle is a simple solution to some of the most complicated problems in the world”
There are many reasons to get into cycling for commute, day to day routine tasks, and exercise too. In the era of physical distancing, cycling for means of transport is the best solution. Cycling is a safer mode of transportation than public transport, especially in large cities. At this time, when fitness gyms are closed, cycling is the best alternate to stay active. Staying active boosts stamina and increases the speed of metabolism. Cycling in fresh air under the sky improves cardiovascular system. All these make immunity stronger, which is need of the time. During lockdown we have learnt about living minimalist, with just essential supplies, restricted mobility and all. In other way it was a ‘pause’ to our busy and stressful lives. Cycling helps to reduce stress and anxiety, and make you feel happy. Covid-19 has resulted in economic fallout all over. Cycling is one of the best alternative mode of transport that is pocket friendly.
There might be few questions like safety on roads, distance to office etc raised too against cycling but all those can be sorted out.
I understand we don’t have supportive infrastructure like western countries, but if more and more people start cycling as a mode of transport, authorities will surely have to develop it too.
“Cycling to work is an important issue for business – the more who do it, the more our communities will support it. Healthy and green, cycling is worthy of the support of every business in the land” – Sir Digby Jones
So what are you waiting for? Its time to start pedalling towards a better tomorrow, pedalling for a ‘new normal’.
